Welcome to Clay County and Watson Realty Corp Orange Park-Fleming Island! Nestled along the western bank of the scenic St. Johns River and to the Southwest of Jacksonville Florida, lies Clay County Florida. Once a part of Duval County, Clay County was created in December 1858 and consists of the incorporated municipalities of Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, Penney Farms and Keystone Heights, the unincorporated municipality of Middleburg and numerous modern community areas such as Fleming Island and Lake Asbury.
With convenient access to I-295 and the Naval Air Station, Clay County, Orange Park and Fleming Island are favorite "bedroom communities" for residents who make the commute to Jacksonville. Clay County has plenty going on within its 600 square miles; rich in natural beauty the county offers an abundance of fresh water lakes, plus vast natural, historic, recreational and agricultural resources. Shopping opportunities abound with the newly renovated Orange Park Mall, the new Oakleaf Town Center, and the many major shopping centers along Blanding Boulevard and on Fleming Island. Additionally, the St. Johns Town Center and the St. Augustine Outlet Malls are only minutes away! Orange Park, Fleming Island, and Green Cove Springs offer a positive business climate, with strong support from the local Chambers of Commerce and the proactive governance of the Clay County Commissioners.
Clay County enjoys the close access to Jacksonville while still maintaining more of a small town, old Florida feel. The county is a haven for those who love nature and the outdoors and is the home to some of the region’s best golf courses, public parks, walking and bicycle trails. Add the enjoyment of boating, fishing, canoeing or kayaking on the forty-six miles of lakes and rivers and you can see why Clay County is a special place indeed.
The history of the area can be seen in the housing that varies widely, from inexpensive starter homes to million dollar estates. As it hugs the west bank of the St. Johns River, many of the luxurious homes boast waterfront views and boating access, either on the river or on beautiful Doctor's Lake. As the county extends further from the Duval County line and the City of Orange Park, it becomes more rural, with abundant green spaces and beautiful views. In recent years, some of that rural land has evolved into new planned housing developments, offering modern, stylish homes in comfortable, convenient neighborhoods with state of the art recreational amenities. More established neighborhoods are also plentiful in Orange Park, with many homes constructed in the 1970s and 1980s.
Fleming Island, Florida is an unincorporated area in Clay County Florida. It is located 15 miles southwest of Jacksonville, on the western side of the St. Johns River, off US 17. It has a rich history, first settled in the late 1700's by George Fleming. He immigrated from Ireland and he and his wife Sophia tended orange groves and other crops on their plantation. George Fleming named his island plantation Hibernia, the Latin word for Ireland, in honor of his island home country. The 1,000 acre island property was gained by a land grant from the Spanish.
Today, Fleming Island is a vibrant suburban community featuring beautiful waterfront homes, private communities such as Pace Island, Fleming Island Plantation and Eagle Harbor. Availability of some of the area’s finest Golf courses can be found on the “Island”, including Fleming Island Golf and Country Club and Eagle Harbor Golf Club.
